Reading On-Demand Literally
Until such time as 10 years ago, I didn’t bother too much with sparing 60 minutes to read books, magazines, articles, newspapers, or anything readable at all!
As a parent and having enrolled English tutors for the betterment of our children I was curious, initially embarrassed at my lack of knowledge when it came to giving advice on books I should have read at school.
There again, I was educated back in the day in the early ’80s, when education was vastly different than these days. Therefore to gain an upper hand, I slowly began to tick off the necessary books the kids were into to gain good grades, (The Cone Gatherers, Of Mice and Men, The Kite Runner, etc…) to have mealtime discussions and encourage their studies.
I mean they read in double quick time all the Harry Potter books, Robinson Crusoe, David Copperfield, The Three Musketeers…, After a while, I could comment responsibly then again got left behind as the kids progressively attained greater readability knowledge.
Boy was I missing out. Why wasn’t I reading? Unaware of the benefits of reading a good book? Not having the time was a poor excuse, make Time! If it were true, it is true books give the reader so much in return. A conversation with a close friend encouraged me to read two life-changing books “ If This Is a Man, The Truce -Primo Levi, and East Of Eden…
